Z Microsystems delivers improved operational
efficiency to Royal Norwegian Air Force maritime surveillance
operations with turn-key computing platform.
San Diego, California (May 31, 2007) Z Microsystems
has been awarded a contract by The Royal Norwegian
Airforce (RNoAF) to upgrade the C4ISR capabilities
of their fleet of P3 Orion Maritime Patrol aircraft.
The RNoAF, in conjunction with Naval Air Systems Command
(NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, MD, required a leading-edge
solution that maximizes space and weight savings while
providing full situational awareness to multiple surveillance
operators within each aircraft.
The solution is an innovative full turn-key system
incorporating two dedicated ZXt
rugged servers, a Command
Console stowable display running two PiPs (Picture-in-Picture),
and three 20"
Orion displays running four PiPs each. One ZXt server
runs ZViDEO
video capture software that allows the surveillance
operators to easily tag frames of video with time, location
and other relevant metadata pertaining to features of
interest for later analysis; such as a Russian fishing
trawler anchored off coastal waters. The second ZXt
server runs detailed MARIA
mapping software essential for the maritime operation.
Full situational awareness is achieved via two primary
video feeds, one EO/IR and one Standard STANAG Video.
The key to operational efficiency are the PiP enabled
displays that allow operators to simultaneously view
not only both video feeds, but also the ZViDEO and/or
MARIA software if needed. Furthermore, each operator
is able to view the images presented at another operator's
station. The result is a platform that allows fewer
surveillance operators to manage intensive multiple
information feeds from a single display station, bringing
space and functional efficiency to crew members and
enhancing mission success.
