In the world of competitive "vetronics" (short for "vehicle electronics"), space is the primary commodity. The most efficient vetronics are those inherently designed to anticipate EOL parts and products, deployability, while keeping in mind the fine balance of small rack real estate. In this newsletter we discuss ways in which modular high tech solutions are changing the way leading integrators maximize their racks. We have also released the advanced, modular and removable TranzPak 7 hard drive with internal heaters designed for extreme environments.

See for yourself,

4X Z MPUZ Microsystems' Field-Ready TP7 Disk Modules Prepare the Military for Superior Responsiveness

The TranzPak 7 (TP7) rugged removable disk drive module is enabling our fighting forces to achieve their goals of quick deployability and superior access to mission-critical data in extreme temperatures.

The TP7 heating technology enables COTS rotary hard drives to perform in extremely cold operating environments with ease of mobility. Mobile military units can quickly arm themselves with information to meet any requirements regardless of environmental conditions.

“The TP7 is a very good product and is very easy to install in our system,” said a manager with Metro Data Acquisition and Management Systems (MDAMS). “It’s also easy to use, and can stand high levels of shock and vibration.” And now powerful heaters inside the rugged, removable disk drive module have allowed the TP7 to pass tests and qualify for operating temperature limits as low as -32° Celsius*.

With data transfer rates of up to 320MB/second, the TP7 compares far more effectively and affordably than the average solid state flash disk with a typical 40MB/second rate. According to the MDAMS manager, “Before the introduction of the TP7, the only storage media we could use was flash disk. But with the TP7, we can meet our requirements and it costs less than flash disk.”

Deployability and Modularity

In military rack-mount environments, rack real estate is tight. When your situation calls for portable field workstations, data acquisition, imagery and remote control systems, Z Microsystems’ field-ready modular building blocks simply plug in and play. These components can easily be swapped out and replaced with several other modular components offered by Z Microsystems. Mix and match, swap-out, field upgrade, move, replace or just update any component at any time by simply replacing one of the modular building blocks.

4U Solution

4U

  • Command Console Display= 2U
  • ZXi3 Station Computer= 2U

The 4U transit case is commonly chosen for its ease of mobility, making computing deployability easier for the mission commander. The combined power of the ZXi3 Computing Station and Command Console deliver up to 900 MB of storage capacity, lightning fast computing responsiveness and the latest display technology available in a 4U rack. This pairing makes the 4U incomparable to competing technology that takes up to nearly twice as much space to deliver the same MIL-specifications.

8U Solution

8U

  • Glider Display= 2U
  • 4X Z Multiple Processor Unit = 6U

Z Microsystems is also enhancing deployed computing technology by creating the most powerful 8U rack-mount, complete computing solutions for your tight workspace. This 8U case offers four hot-swappable computers with modular hard drives and one high resolution Glider. The 4X Z MPU contains all the computing power of Dual Xeon, SPARC and/or P4 processors, as well as modular, hot-pluggable computer blades, removable hard drives, and peripherals like CDROM and floppy drives, all controlled both locally and remotely. The Glider offers high resolution technology with rugged and secure remote and local controls. Z Microsystems' ZMPU and Glide technology encompasses the best of all worlds, conserving space, while mazimizing your transit case.p>

These and many other power server packages can be delivered pre-configured in multiple transit case sizes. Z Microsystems provides all of the components to build, protect and maintain your workstations, servers, fielded electronic and hardware systems exactly the way you want them.
